This volume revisits the artificial and enormously limiting historiographical concepts of centre and periphery in European musical life throughout the long 19th century and until the outbreak of the First World War. In this period, music played a prominent role, and cities such as Paris, Vienna, Milan or London, real laboratories of artistic creation, became social and cultural references for the rest of the continent, whose inhabitants strove to imitate their musical habits such as concert and theatrical life, soirées, parties or musical promenades.

Este volumen revisa los artificiales y enormemente limitadores conceptos historiográficos de centro y periferia en la vida musical europea durante el largo siglo XIX y hasta el estallido de la Primera Guerra Mundial. En este periodo, la música desempeñó un papel destacado, y ciudades como París, Viena, Milán o Londres, auténticos laboratorios de creación artística, se convirtieron en referentes sociales y culturales para el resto del continente, cuyos habitantes se esforzaban por imitar sus hábitos musicales, como la vida concertística y teatral, las soirées, las fiestas o los paseos musicales.
