Concepts such as influence, imitation, emulation, transmission or plagiarism are transcendental to cultural history and the subject of universal debate. They are not mere labels imposed by modern historiography on ancient texts, nor are they the result of a later interpretation of ways of transmitting and teaching, but are concepts defined and discussed internally, within all cultures, since time immemorial, which have yielded very diverse results. The purpose of this book evolves around these concepts, and it aims to become part of a very long tradition of studies on this subject that is essential to the understanding of the processes of reception and creation.

Conceptos como influencia, imitación, emulación, transmisión o plagio son trascendentales para la historia cultural y objeto de debate universal. No son meras etiquetas impuestas por la historiografía moderna a los textos antiguos, ni el resultado de una interpretación posterior de las formas de transmitir y enseñar, sino que son conceptos definidos y discutidos internamente, dentro de todas las culturas, desde tiempos inmemoriales, que han dado resultados muy diversos. En torno a estos conceptos gira el propósito de este libro, que pretende inscribirse en una larguísima tradición de estudios sobre este tema, esencial para la comprensión de los procesos de recepción y creación.
