Al otro lado

Betriu, Marc

During the Civil War, Mastreta, a man with a dark past, is forcibly recruited by the intelligence service of the Republican government to take on a delicate mission: to recover a film, in the hands of a Russian traitor, showing the mass executions of national prisoners. Its publication could have unfavorable publicity effects for the Republican side. In San Sebastián, taken months before by national troops, and under a fictitious identity, Mastreta contacts Frederika Heinz, a young and attractive German agent whom the government of her country has sent to lead an expedition to mediate in obtaining the Filmation. Frederika is an independent woman with a behavior that is too liberal for what the Spanish soldiers on the National side are used to. In the propaganda war, obtaining the filming of the executions of the Republican side and publishing it could be the necessary coup to punish the Republic and cover up the bad international image that the bombing of Guernica has caused. Mastreta and Frederika begin a flirtation that will not be alien to various chances. The plot will be complicated by a very dangerous double game: Mastreta's mission is not what it seems, and neither is Frederika's.
