One morning in March 2021, Mark Lanegan woke up deaf and barely breathing at his home in Ireland. They were the first and devastating symptoms of covid-19 infection. After a while, he rushed down the stairs and lost consciousness. Over the next few months he drifted in and out of a deep coma, and when he regained consciousness he was unable to walk and barely eat. At death's door, in his hospital bed in Kerry, between insomnia and restless sleep, he is assailed by nightmares, visions and memories of a chaotic and insane life. Written in dry hacks of prose and poetry, "El diablo en coma" is a harrowing tale of convalescence and remorse, and ultimately the living testament of a unique singer.
