Unpredictable and yet regular, always new as well as intelligible, fashion never ceases to interest psychologists, sociologists and aesthetes. In this book, however, Roland Barthes questions it from a different point of view: considering it through the descriptions in the press, he discovers in it a system of meanings and subjects it for the first time to a true semantic analysis. How can men and women create meaning through their clothing?
