Gènere

Segarra, Marta

This essay aims to take a "quick dive" into the notion of gender and the studies that have developed around it, as clearly and concisely as possible. This concept was created to refer to the social and cultural burden that is added to sex and that determines the norms of behavior of men and women. Thus, sex would be a physical trait that we cannot modify without radically altering our bodies, while gender would change according to times and cultures, which attribute different values to each sex. Feminism has shown how women, in general, bear the brunt of this distinction, which contributes to so-called male domination, which affects all areas of individual and collective life. In any case, for a few decades, gender studies have complicated this division between sex and gender. In addition, phenomena with such validity as the vindication of non-binarism or gender transitions blur the boundaries between femininity and masculinity, or between men and women, and lead us to wonder if we are witnessing the end of the genre
