Historia del cubo
las caras desconocidas del hexaedro regular
Meavilla Seguí, Vicente
Did you know that Plato identified the earth element with the cube? That the Atomium in Belgium has a cubic shape? Did you know that the architect Ernö Rubik, inventor of the famous puzzle, made his most famous creation due to his interest in the relationship between space, object and movement? Or that the cube is also represented in literature through poetry? In the chapters that make up this kind of "biography" we have not only taken into account the geometric aspects, perhaps the best known, but also explore the various cultural and symbolic aspects that have made it a fascinating object in our society. Through its pages we will discover some hexahedral puzzles such as the diabolic cube, soma cube, Mikusinski cube, O'Berine cube, Gridlock Puzzle, Slothouber-Graatsma puzzle, Conway cube, Bedlam cube and of course, the best known of all , Rubik's cube. We will also review the impossible cubic figures, the Koffka and Necker cubes, the drawings and engravings of regular hexahedrons designed by Leonardo da Vinci, Lorenz Stoer and Wenzel Jamnitzer, the hexahedral structure of the Atomium in Brussels, some cubic sculptures, their presence in crystals of pyrite, goethite, fluorite, halatite and boleite, the cubic poems of Bernardo Schiavetta, the magic cubes of order n, and the presence of regular hexahedrons in furniture design, in the cinema, or in popular culture. History of the cube The Unknown Faces of the Regular Hexahedron is a fascinating exploration of one of the simplest and most ubiquitous regular polyhedra (Platonic solids) in the world of mathematics, the regular hexahedron, better known as a cube. This geometric solid with six square faces is regularly present in our lives, in nature, and of course in the mathematical universe.
