Hombres feministas y masculinidad en la España contemporánea

Espinosa Gutiérrez, Jesús

Among the liberal-progressive, republican and revolutionary anarchist and socialist political cultures there have been men who, with greater or lesser radicalism, supported the emancipation of women, criticized the state of subalternity of the female sex and demanded the achievement of their rights. This book offers an overview of the role they played during the first half of the 19th century and the first third of the 20th in Spain, showing the commitment of this minority of men to the feminist political agenda of their time, but also the persistence in his discourse of characters that keep him within the margins of hegemonic masculinity. The study of the different tendencies, of the criticisms they received from traditionalist sectors, of the objections of the feminists themselves, of the difference with respect to British suffragism and many other analyzed aspects makes this work an excellent contribution to the knowledge of our history and to a better understanding of the present.
