Jerusalén, santa y cautiva

desde el corazón de la ciudad vieja a la eternidad

Ayestaran, Mikel

In the Old City of Jerusalem seven of the eight gates that give access to the interior of the wall are the meeting points. The eighth, the Golden Gate, located in the eastern part of the Esplanade of the Mosques, is also a key gathering point, but remains sealed awaiting the return of the Messiah. When it returns, it will open and the Redeemer will enter through it, followed by the thousands of Jews and Muslims buried in the cemeteries strategically located there, hoping to be the first to follow him. Until he returns to El Salvador, better to stay in one of the other seven. This is a chronicle of Jerusalem -the city where Mikel Ayestaran has resided with his family for years- written in the first person from the stories of residents of the four neighborhoods (Muslim, Jewish, Armenian and Christian) of the City Old woman. Through them, the author talks about what life is like in a city captive of his holiness, longed for by Jews, Muslims and Christians, a Holy Land in which the past inevitably eats the future.
