Jesús Rollán eterno
vida y muerte de una leyenda
Ávila, Francisco
Martínez, Alberto (1984- )
On March 11, 2006, Jesús Rollán ended his life in an addiction treatment clinic in La Garriga. He was 37 years old. His dreams ended at the 2004 Athens Olympics, when he retired weighed down by injuries. His career was brilliant. Rollán managed to be champion of everything and the best goalkeeper in the world during the prodigious decade of the golden generation of water polo, the first great Spanish team in living memory. His life went by at full speed. A generous, beloved person with a winning character that was transcendental in achieving sporting success, those who knew him compare his passion for sport and his competitiveness with that of other talents such as Rafa Nadal or Seve Ballesteros. His story attracts like a magnet. From his childhood in Aravaca to discovering water polo with a coach who made them chop logs with an axe, from his crazy years at Blume to his miraculous recoveries and his adventure in Italy, all painted gold and silver. But the pieces of that complete puzzle in the water lived another life outside of it. For Jesus, always the strongest of the team, the end was the most tragic.
