Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach

una herencia obligatoria

Hindemith, Paul

We inaugurate the Clepsydra collection with a beautiful lecture by the musician Paul Hindemith on Bach. Delivered on 12 September 1950 at the Bachfest in Hamburg on the occasion of the second centenary of Bach's death, it is subtitled with a significant phrase: "An obligatory inheritance." What inheritance is that? Hindemith analyzes his vision and his understanding of the work of the great German musician from his own experience as a creator, "compared to Bach, any musician, even the most gifted, is at a disadvantage from the start", he anticipates.
