La enfermedad de Alzheimer

cuando se esfuman los recuerdos

Moreno González, Inés

In this book we will talk about Alzheimer's disease and its relationship with dementia. We will describe its symptoms and its socioeconomic and health impact. We will detail the pathology and what happens in the patients' brain. We will talk about the clinical diagnosis of the disease based on cognitive studies and the analytical tests that are carried out in the clinic. We will mention the known risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and identify which ones could be modified or controlled to reduce the likelihood of suffering from this disease. These include aging, head injuries, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, lack of sleep and an unhealthy lifestyle. In addition, we will explain the genetics of the disease, whether it is hereditary and the presence of genetic predispositions. We will look at the treatments available and where current research is heading in the search for new therapies. We will indicate what is known about the habits that can lead us towards healthy aging and reduce the risk of dementia. Finally, we will end with some recommendations for the support of patients and caregivers.
