Listening doesn't seem to be being listened to very carefully. For this reason, "The Current Listening" defends the act of listening as a creative and critical, poetic and political practice. This book is born from an approximate effort, sometimes slow, sometimes desperate, to vindicate the active and participatory dimension of listening in audiovisual communication and, of course, in the musical experience. The notion of "social ear" would help to distinguish the main listening schemes in contemporary culture, especially mass listening, classical listening and the conditions of saturation that mark the aimless course of ambient (non) listening. It is reasonable to emphasize that what is at stake here is crucial for life in common.
