'Digitalization pushes us towards a co-evolutionary process between humans and machines', says the expert in the knowledge society Helga Nowotny. This process, apparently irreversible, is crossed by the tension between confidence in artificial intelligence and doubt about its benefits for humanity. The cyborg symbiosis also occurs in a complex and worrying context: that of the climate crisis and the awareness of the Anthropocene. This important book proposes a joint reflection on these two simultaneous phenomena, perhaps the most important of our time: the rise of algorithms and the concern for sustainability. To carry it out, the author analyzes digital time, complex systems, predictive algorithms, simulation models or the possibility of non-linear thinking. She does so at an intermediate point between the excessive techno-optimism of the engineers of large corporations and the black pessimism of the detractors of artificial intelligence. In that place she defends digital humanism, the idea that the future remains open, an advance with an awareness of tradition and the design of ethical algorithms.
