La frontera
Premi Isabel de Villena de Narrativa
Franco, Josep
In the 13th century, the border of the Crown of Aragon extended to the south and the Kingdom of Valencia became an incipient reality. Thanks to the story of the translator Josep de Sant Pere, we will know the story of Mateu de Bel, a witness to that founding moment. From Morella, Mateu de Bel will travel much of the new kingdom. After a season in the monastery of Benifassà, he moved to Sant Mateu i Peñíscola, until he settled in Valencia. There, he became an assistant to the Moorish physician Jucef Bonsenyor, an assistant to the nobility, and studied law until he became one of the most prestigious lawyers in the city. Little by little, we realize that the border is not just a physical boundary. The border is also the line that divides religions, languages, social classes and even affections.
