Los valientes están solos

Los valientes están solos

Saviano, Roberto

The novel by Giovanni Falcone. The book about a fighter against the Mafia written by another of his fighters. Falcone died in 1992, along with his wife and three of his bodyguards, when his car was blown up on the highway leading to Palermo from the airport. Saviano is still alive, writing and denouncing, but threatened, under protection and with bodyguards. Two explosions frame the novel: the first occurs in 1943 in the town of Corleone, when a family manipulates an allied bomb that has not exploded to dismantle it and sell it. Something goes wrong, the bomb explodes and everyone dies except one child. The survivor is Totò Riina, future capo dei capi, the man who will order Falcone's murder in 1992 with the second explosion in the book. Saviano reconstructs a transcendental episode in the fight against the Mafia, a war that still continues. Falcone took giant steps, followed the money trail, looked for repentant people to confess, and orchestrated a macro-trial. Despite the obstacles put in his way by some from high up, he managed to deal severe blows to the organization. She swore to kill him and ended up succeeding. The reconstruction made here of his life covers two other relevant aspects: the intimacy, the doubts and the accusations of divisiveness that the judge had to endure, and also the very important presence of those who accompanied him in his feat, because he did not carry it out. carried out alone, but supported by a team of collaborators dedicated to the cause.
