José Javier Esparza begins the story of this book where The Great Adventure of the Kingdom of Asturias ended. The agonizing times of the first Christian resistance against the Muslim invader have ended and we enter a Spain of Moors and Christians where it is not always easy to separate history and legend: a Spain of captive maidens and Moorish queens, of warriors and troubadours, of monks and merchants at a time when life was a continuous gamble. The period of Reconquista that is now opening - from the 10th century to the beginning of the 13th - is not going to be more peaceful than the previous one, but the scenario expands towards the south of the mountains and we witness the birth and expansion of the Christian kingdoms: Castile , Navarra, Aragon and Portugal, faced with the power of Al Andalus. In this Spain of the five kingdoms, mythical characters who, however, really existed, will live, war and love, such as the great Abderramán, Count Fernán González, Almanzor, the Cid Campeador or Queen Urraca, faced in epic battles that changed the course of history, until arriving, in 1212, at the definitive event: Las Navas de Tolosa.
