Para Roberto Calasso

Para Roberto Calasso

Herralde, Jorge (ed.)

In July 2021, Roberto Calasso, editor, writer, intellectual, man of letters, essential figure of Italian and European culture, passed away. Jorge Herralde, accomplice editor and friend of many years, since the youthful meetings in Frankfurt in the seventies of the last century, pays tribute to him. This volume brings together a range of texts that approach the figure of him from different angles and draw a polyhedral portrait of this fascinating character. Herralde himself evokes the friendship, the complicity of proudly independent publishers and the communicating vessels between Adelphi and Anagrama. Gustavo Guerrero glosses the legendary publisher who rigorously builds a catalog at the head of the flagship of quality publishing in Italy and a reference publisher throughout the world; Basilio Baltasar addresses the intellectual determined to interpret mythical narratives; Edgardo Dobry reviews the writer's career; Carlo Feltrinelli remembers his colleague and highlights the bridges between Adelphi and Anagrama, and Yasmina Reza recounts a singular first meeting with who would be his Italian editor, a rainy day in Paris, with a sulky Calasso so different from all subsequent reunions, presided over by Laughter. The reader will also discover here the voice of the honoree himself, with his speech at the reception of the Formentor Prize, which was awarded to him in 2016.
