At the end of July 1936, the Spanish embassy in Paris became the arms purchasing center for the Republic. Opportunists and commission agents parade through their offices in order to take advantage of the need. During the month of August, desperate attempts will lead Armando and Luz, a Spanish couple, to become involved in attempts to supply weapons to each of the warring sides. She believes him dead, and he imagines her looking for a job to support their daughter. However, the two have been recruited by agents with antagonistic interests who will take them to Nazi Germany in a desperate attempt to obtain supplies for a country, Spain, that is bleeding into a civil war.
