Tortura blanca
entrevistas con mujeres iraníes encarceladas
Mohammadi, Narges
In "White Torture", Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi reveals the experiences of fourteen women, including herself, in the Islamic Republic of Iran's most infamous prisons. Their life behind bars is subjected to cruel indignities: they suffer harassment and beatings by the guards, total isolation, denial of any type of medical treatment, grueling interrogations, disciplinary punishments... The wrath of the Iranian repressive apparatus also hangs over their families, who are threatened and do not know the whereabouts of the prisoners. None of these women have committed any crime: they are prisoners of conscience or hostages used as bargaining chips. Through physical and psychological torture, the Iranian state believes it can reform their souls. The interviews collected in White Torture, conducted while all the prisoners were in jail or awaiting trial, are astonishing documents of humanity, resistance and integrity. As Iranians continue to fight for the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement, White Torture charges against the Iranian theocratic regime for its crimes.
