The police found Ostegun Santuz in the streets of Algorta, together with Jose Manuel Pagoaga Peixoto. Both ran away, but Eustakio Mendizabal Txikia was shot twice; one, next to the temple. He was 28 years old, and he was from Itsasondo. Peixoto, on the other hand, managed to evade the police and hid in Galdakao. Afterwards, the figure of Txikia became one of the fastest growing myths of the Basque liberation process. It has been 50 years since Mendizabal was killed, and he is one of the most remembered ETA members from the period before the death of the dictator Franco. He was a militant, Basque-speaking person and outstanding writer, the protagonist of a period of national awakening. This book is a review of his life.
