Txikia

Txikia

de tu lucha brotarán

Egaña, Iñaki

The police discovered him on a Thursday during Holy Week in the streets of Algorta, along with José Manuel Pagoaga, Peixoto. They both fled, but Eustakio Mendizabal, Txikia, was shot twice; one close, on the temple. He was 28 years old and was a native of Itsasondo. Peixoto, on the other hand, managed to evade the police and hid in Galdakao. Subsequently, the figure of Txikia became one of the most solid myths of the Basque liberation process. It has been 50 years since the death of Mendizabal, one of the most remembered members of ETA from the period before the death of the dictator Franco. He was a prominent activist, Basque speaker and writer, protagonist of a time of national awakening. This book is a review of his life.
