The Language of Objects

This book sheds new light on the sub-genre of Greek descriptive epigram, focusing on deictic reference as a springboard to understand three different approaches to the materiality of texts: imagination-oriented deixis, pointing to referents conjured in the reader’s mind; ocular deixis, addressing perceivable referents; displaced deixis, underscoring the subjective response of readers/viewers.

Este libro arroja nueva luz sobre el subgénero del epigrama descriptivo griego, centrándose en la referencia deíctica como trampolín para comprender tres enfoques diferentes de la materialidad de los textos: la deixis orientada a la imaginación, que apunta a referentes conjurados en la mente del lector; la deixis ocular, que se dirige a referentes perceptibles; la deixis desplazada, que subraya la respuesta subjetiva de los lectores/espectadores.
