The Politics of Form in Greek Literature

This book explores the relationship between form and political life specifically in Greek textual culture. In the last generation or so, classicists (and their counterparts in other disciplines) have begun to pay greater attention to the socio-historical contexts of literary production and sought to historicize aesthetic practice. However, historicism (and in particular New Historicism) is only one mode of approaching the question of form, which is increasingly brought into dialogue with a number of other issues (e.g. gender).

Este libro explora la relación entre forma y vida política específicamente en la cultura textual griega. En la última generación, los clasicistas (y sus homólogos de otras disciplinas) han empezado a prestar mayor atención a los contextos sociohistóricos de la producción literaria y han tratado de historizar la práctica estética. Sin embargo, el historicismo (y en particular el Nuevo Historicismo) es sólo un modo de abordar la cuestión de la forma, que cada vez dialoga más con otras cuestiones (por ejemplo, el género).
