Women's Dress in the Ancient Greek World

The clothing and ornament of Greek women signalled much about the status and the morality assigned to them. Yet this revealing aspect of women's history has been little studied. In this collection of new studies by an international team, ancient visual evidence from vase-painting and sculpture is used extensively alongside Greek literature to reconstruct how women of the Greek world were perceived, and also, in important ways, how they lived.

La vestimenta y los ornamentos de las mujeres griegas indicaban mucho sobre el estatus y la moralidad que se les asignaba. Sin embargo, este revelador aspecto de la historia de la mujer ha sido poco estudiado. En esta colección de nuevos estudios realizados por un equipo internacional, se utilizan pruebas visuales antiguas procedentes de la pintura de jarrones y la escultura, junto con la literatura griega, para reconstruir cómo se percibía a las mujeres del mundo griego y también, en aspectos importantes, cómo vivían.
